Can Your PC Run Dead Space?

When Dead Space first launched in 2008, it proved EA’s ability to create exciting new franchises, not just endless sports games and closed studios. The series went on hiatus after completing the first trilogy, but EA is now resurrecting Dead Space for a new generation. See if your computer can handle this reworked terror.

Why the hype for Dead Space?

The original Dead Space is a good game that looks even better in retrospect. The first game took obvious inspiration from Resident Evil 4’s methodical third-person shooter and horror innovations, but the sci-fi setting and mythology led to some interesting new ideas, such as zero-gravity sequences and space Scientology.

As with Resident Evil, the later Dead Space games doubled down on the goofy action that diluted the basic formula. Thankfully, this Dead Space remake goes back to its roots, just like the excellent Resident Evil remakes. Let’s hope it ends up being nicer than Dead Space’s recent spiritual successor, The Callisto Protocol. The original development team, Visceral Games, is no more, but Motive Studio is giving it a go with this remake. Motive’s work on a new reboot of Star Wars Battlefront reveals the studio can create stunning sci-fi video game worlds.

To fend off the rotting Necromorph space zombie monsters from Dead Space, you’ll need to strategically shoot their limbs with your mining gear. Fortunately, you can do this with a controller or keyboard and mouse combo. We don’t know about Steam Deck compatibility yet.
