College basketball picks, schedule: Predictions for Kansas vs. Iowa State and more key top 25 games on Saturday

Hopefully you have plenty of screens and streaming devices nearby, as Saturday will be a great day to immerse yourself in wall-to-wall college basketball action. From noon Eastern Time until late in the window, a plethora of games can rightfully compete for your attention.

The drama kicks off Saturday noon with what can only be described as a Kentucky-Tennessee clash – John Calipari vs. Rick Barnes – always a must see on TV. But this one has some interesting rates Kentucky fail. A loss to the Vols would give Britain its third-ever losing streak in three or more SEC games under Cal, and would further sink the ship in Lexington, Kentucky, which is under increasing threat. The game against Tennessee and his No. 1 defense is not ideal for the Wildcats.

Expect more fireworks and drama in both the Big Ten and the Big Twelve in the late afternoon. Indiana, after a three-game slippage, desperately needs to play a home game against an also struggling team from Wisconsin. Kansas State is looking to prove itself as a true Big 12 contender with a major road test against TCU. Then, of course, Kansas welcomes the state of Iowa to Allen Fieldhouse as two undefeated teams start in major league play.

Drama, drama, drama.

Prior to the action, our team gathered strength to pick for every important game, both straight and against the spread.

Odds via Caesars Sportsbook | Eastern all the time

No. 18 Wisconsin, Indiana

Featured game | Indiana Hoosiers vs Wisconsin Badgers

1:00 PM EST | CBS, CBSSports.com, CBS sports app (Free) — Indiana is on the defensive as it struggles with injuries to veteran starters Xavier Johnson and Race Thompson. The Hoosiers allowed three consecutive Big Ten opponents to exceed 80 points and lost all three games. Wisconsin is facing its own injury problem as top scorer Tyler Wahl is recovering from an ankle injury. But the Badgers have enough firepower elsewhere on the list to keep this one close and maybe even steal a win on the road. Dial: Wisconsin +4.5 (Cobb)

No. 11 Kansas State at No. 17 TCU

Recommended game | TCU Horned Frogs vs Kansas Wildcats

14:00 | ESPN2, fuboTV (try it free) — TCU have lost twice in a row, with a total of six points in the notorious Big 12, while K-State is 15-1 and gaining momentum as a legal contender. But I’m going to lean in the opposite direction from the recent momentum and take TCU here. The Horned Frogs are playing well despite recent stumbles behind Mike Miles Jr., Emanuel Miller and Damion Baugh. Select: TCU -3.5 (Boone)

No. 14 in Iowa to No. 2 in Kansas

Featured game | Kansas Jayhawks vs Iowa State Cyclones

16:00 | ESPN+ — Kansas looked completely dead twice this season at home before resurrecting and winning in front of the faithful Jayhawks. It seems silly to bet against them at home, but this season they have allowed teams to stick close together in league matches, and this ISU team is equipped both inside and out to keep up that trend with a spread guard. Select: ISU +8 (Boone)

Recommended game | Clemson Tigers vs. Duke Blue Devils

5:00 p.m. | ACC network, fuboTV (try it for free) — Jeremy Roach’s injury crippled Duke’s already struggling team and cost them some growth and momentum as their young core developed. And apart from Kyle Filipowski, Duke’s young five-star teams were a bit hit and miss. But Dariq Whitehead is moving in the right direction, Filipowski is playing at a high level and Ryan Young (!) is now giving up important minutes for a team that I think can handle this confusion on the road. Roach is not expected to be there, but Tyrese Proctor can get the job done. Select: Duke +1 (Boone)

Kentucky at number 5 in Tennessee

Featured game | Tennessee Volunteers vs. Kentucky Wildcats

12:00 | ESPN, fuboTV (try it free) — Every time Kentucky seems to hit a new low this season, it surprises by dropping another rung of the ladder and finding New low. But a loss on the road here doesn’t qualify. Tennessee is the clear favorite and is expected to win by a double-digit margin behind the No. 1 defense. Expecting it to be a bit closer as Kentucky is fighting for its life, but the Vols are the game here. Forecast: UK +14 (Boone)
