- Elvis Presley’s daughter Lisa Marie Presley has died at the age of 54, her mother announced on Thursday.
- She made her final public appearance on Tuesday at the Golden Globes.
- Presley was survived by her mother Priscilla and her daughters Riley Keough, and twins Harper and Finley Lockwood.
Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of rock and roll legend Elvis Presley, has died at the age of 54, her mother has announced, according to The Associated Press.
“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” Priscilla Presley said in a statement Thursday. “She was the most passionate, strong, and loving woman I’ve ever known.”
Presley was “rushed” to the hospital earlier in the day, according to a post Priscilla Presley shared on Facebook.
According to TMZ, paramedics arrived at her home in Calabasas after receiving a call that the singer was experiencing a cardiac arrest. She was reportedly given CPR and given adrenaline at the scene to help her regain her pulse.
Presley made her final public appearance on Tuesday at the 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards, where actor Austin Butler won for Best Actor for his role as her father in Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 biopic about the king of rock and roll, Elvis.
The mother of four children followed in her father’s footsteps and became a singer. Her latest album, “Storm & Grace”, was released in 2012 and combined the genres of rock, pop, folk and country music.
Presley was born to Elvis and Priscilla Presley on February 1, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee, and was their only child. She grew up surrounded by media attention due to her father’s career as one of the most successful singers in modern history. This attention took a tragic turn and spilled over to Presley and her mother when Elvis died of heart failure in 1977 at the age of only 42. Presley was nine at the time.
She was 20 when she married musician Danny Keough. They had two children together: Danielle Riley Keough was born in 1989 and Benjamin Keough was born in 1992.
Presley divorced Danny in early 1994 and secretly married pop star Michael Jackson in May of that year while they were in the Dominican Republic, Entertainment Weekly reported. The couple made headlines after they shared a kiss that shocked the world on the MTV VMAs stage. But the couple separated in late 1995 and divorced in 1996.
An even shorter marriage to actor Nicholas Cage followed. The former partners met in 2000, married in August 2002, and filed for divorce just three months later, although according to People magazine, the case was not finalized until 2004.
She married music producer Michael Lockwood in Japan in 2006. Their twin daughters Finley and Vivianne Lockwood were born on October 7, 2008. Presley and Michael split in 2016, according to People.
Tragedy has followed Presley for much of her life, most recently in 2020 when her son Benjamin died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Fox News.
In a 2022 essay about his death for People, Presley wrote, “I already fight and beat myself tirelessly and chronically, blaming myself every day and it’s hard enough to live with right now. But others will also judge and blame you, even secretly or behind your back, which is even more cruel and painful than anything else.”
He has a 77-year-old mother, Priscilla, a 33-year-old daughter, Riley, and 14-year-old twin daughters, Finley and Harper, Vivienne.
