UK and card bonuses are like average professional sports teams. They’re in the league, but basically nobody cares. It’s a normal day, but today is not a normal day.
In an exciting move, the British Airways Amex Premium card offers a record 70,000 points welcome bonus, which, combined with recent card changes, makes it more desirable than ever.
It’s literally never been better so if you’re in the UK and looking for a great kickstarter to get into your point game or boost this is a great card with a record bonus.
British Airways Premium Plus 70,000 offer
In the US, we usually stay awake to receive bonuses for airline cards under 100,000 points, but in the UK, anything above 30,000 points is considered extraordinary.
With a bonus of 70,000 Avios, this is literally the most extraordinary UK BA Amex offer yet. And with a companion voucher now much more valuable thanks to British Airways’ recent flight fare changes, it’s even better.
Changes to the companion voucher last year also make it attractive for solo travelers as it can be just as effective for a single person.
The card comes with an annual fee of £250, but considering you should be able to save plenty of Avios by using it when a companion voucher is activated, the annual fee should always be more than justifiable. For example, on a trip to New York, I’ll save 160,000 Avios on the second passenger, which I personally value at over £2,000 a year.
With lower surcharges of just £350 for a round trip to many Club World destinations, it’s an even simpler equation. If you don’t earn a £10,000 companion voucher every year, the big £70,000 Avios bonus alone could still be worth it.
Quick summary: British Airways avios changes
British Airways recently significantly reduced the cash surcharge portion of award flights booked with Avios. This involved an increase in the price of Avios for flights, but it’s much easier to earn more Avios – especially with bonuses like this – than simply raise your salary.
Someone who gets a British Airways Premium Plus card and spends £10,000 to activate a companion voucher will now pay £700 return taxes for two and a total of 160,000 Avios to New York in business class, compared to the typical 120,000 points and over £1,600 total for the two previously.
Solo travelers can use a voucher to halve the Avios needed for one and will be able to book a trip such as London to New York in Business Class for £700 and 80,000 return points.
Who can get the card?
The rules are quite simple. You can get this card and most importantly a bonus if the following applies to you.
“I understand that if I have held or have held British Airways personal American Express Cards in the last 24 months, I will not be eligible for any welcome bonus.”
GSTP believes this is a great time to get a family member or travel companion involved if you are not personally eligible. Luckily Ms. GSTP was and just locked in the best bonus on this card.
The direct link to apply for the card can be found here. We have none of this.
