Well, it’s Tuesday and we already have ten days of the new year. 10 down, 355 to the end. The year 2023 has 365 days. 2024 will be a leap year, meaning February will have one extra year. According to my calculations, this means that on February 29, 2024, we will receive Wordle #985. The next February 29th will be in the year 2028, and if they don’t add more words to the wordle stack, the game will be over by then – or maybe it’s evolved into six-letter words, or it’s just started over again, in a new cycle.
Something about Wordle always makes me think about time. dates. Calendars. Etymology of months and days. Perhaps it’s because I’ve never kept a journal and this guide/column/whatever has become a place of daily thought. Not the kind you’d put in a diary or diary – nothing so personal for the whole world to see – but thoughts nonetheless. February 29, 2028 is 2446 days away. More than five years into the future. Where will we all be then?
My daughter will be approaching her 21st birthday. My son will be almost 18. I’ll be on the other side of a 45 looking down the barrel of my 50. Where will America be? Global economy? War and peace? Climate change? Who will be our president?
It’s best not to think about such things too much. I have a better idea. Let’s do Wordle.
Today’s Wordle solution (with spoilers!)
Hint: Dirty, dirty, messy, greasy.
Tip: There are 1.5 vowels in this word.
You know, I thought I had it on the second guess for sure…dirt— as soon as the letters ‘G’ and ‘R’ started to turn green. I finally knew that “I” was right. Then the “M” turned green and I thought “YES! I WILL BEAT A BOT TODAY!”
Unfortunately, it wasn’t supposed to be. equalize brought me so close with only 8 possible solutions. But my near second win was squashed like a worm when the “E” turned grey. Of course, there was only one (then a very obvious solution) and it was grimy for W! Unfortunately, Wordle Bot also got it in 3, so we tied.
That’s 1 point for getting it in 3 tries and zero points for a bot tie, for a total score of 1 point. I’ll take it! huzzah!
